Our Response To The Covid Pandemic
During this Covid19, pandemic, and lockdown, We supported and assisted over 50 women and children, the elderly, those who have lost their jobs, who have no recourse to public funds, and the vulnerable ones in the community.
We supported with food vouchers, foodstuffs, and helped in collecting medication from different pharmacies. We launched a new Care Call Service, training women and the elderly to be familiar with virtual engagement (Zoom), and expanded our Befriending Phone Service to the isolated, elderly, lonely, vulnerable residents and people with mental health issues. Also, we signposted according to individual needs and provided counseling services.
Because Covid19 have had an impact on people’s mental health in different ways, we set up an online weekly meeting on Coping with post Covid19 Anxiety and Mental Health Issues, building resilience, building confidence on how to get back to work, recognizing the signs, and dealing with the increase of mental illness in the BAME community. We set up a workshop online dealing with issues of loneliness, isolation, and the increase in domestic abuse. Also, with the innovative befriending scheme and we created new approaches in mentoring, coaching, and employability classes online.
In addition, we supported and assisted women and families who were unable to pay their bills and addressing issues concerning the BAME background. Our organization became a one-stop-shop, where people were able to access different services and support and with the help of our friendly local volunteers, we provided companionship, encouragement, pastoral care online, and will continue to help and assist anyone that needs our support in the community.
